Randi is taken aback when hearing over the loud speaker on a plane, the names of her departed husband and her daughter’s departed boyfriend.
Randi writes:
“Last October, my daughter’s boyfriend of 12 years, Dan, age 32 years old was killed at work. This was totally unexpected. Four months later, my husband, Ken died which was also totally unexpected. My daughter and I have been to 2 different grief support groups where in both groups many talked about signs from their love ones and my daughter and I wished we believed in it, but never felt any kind of sign or connection.”
“We went away for a week to take a break from our crying and all those memories around us at home of the both of them. On the flight home when the pilot was talking his usual stuff before take-off, we really weren’t paying close attention to it, (but of course should), I did catch that he said the names Ken and Dan.”
“I said to my daughter, “Did you just hear their names?” She didn’t hear anything. The whole flight home it was on my mind (and still is). When exiting the flight, I asked one of the flight crew, “Is the pilot around?” She pointed in the direction. I walked over to him with my daughter and said ….”This may seem odd to ask but are you the pilot? He said, “I’m the co-pilot, Ken”, he replied. With tears in my eyes, I asked the name of the pilot. “Dan.” he said. With that my daughter and I cried and explained to him our reactions.”
“Am I just searching for a sign? I’m truly not a believer in this but to have both their names exactly what we called them was just amazing. I’m not one to believe in signs but NOW I question it.”
Commentary
Non-Believers
For a non-believer, changing a whole belief system to adjust for an opposite way of thinking can take a lot of effort, thought and energy, especially if the belief system has been there for years.
Some signs are so easily dismissed as, “The mind is playing tricks on us” or “wishful thinking.” For some people it is easier to think these things than to deal with a whole belief system change.
Switching over from physical ways of thinking to the more nebulous, hard to prove, spiritual way of thinking can be quite a head trip. It may seem irrational, and even impossible that these things can happen. Many need proof before a crack begins to open through their own questioning, since it opens up an existential conversation that can be difficult to navigate and comprehend. But it does lead to the emergence of the spiritual self if it is pursued.
Even changing from one religion to another can be quite scary as one leaves a system of beliefs for an entirely new system of beliefs. It’s unknown. It’s confrontative. People like to be sure about what they believe. No one wants to be wrong, so this is another life altering experience.
Thank goodness that even non-believers get signs or they might never question. Nothing like a good questioning to challenge an existing belief system. You never know what you may discover.
Believers
Sometimes it takes a sign to believe. But, just because you don’t think there has been a sign, it doesn’t mean your departed loved one is not aware of you or is not with you.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the more spiritual anomalies you experience, the less you can deny their miraculous occurrence. They can be very astonishing and healing.
If one does arrive at a believer’s thinking, it is absolutely fascinating and amazingly comforting to know that death is not the end for anyone, least of all, you and your loved ones.
Knowers
Before long, after a certain amount of experiences with your departed loved one and the world beyond, at some point, you become a knower. It just happens, although some faith and patience is required.
What you also begin to know is that, along with guiding you and loving you from beyond your awareness, your departed loved one is a part of you. In a spiritual sense, you could never be without them. This is often the beginning path of a deeper sacred spiritual journey. It is the journey to great peacefulness, despite what is going on around you in the world.
This is because your vision has widened into the spiritual realm where you, a spiritual being, is no longer completely anchored to the physicality of this existence, for someday we too, will need to let go. Hey. You’ve got to begin to pack your psychological bags sometime for graduating from this realm comes for all of us.
Was She Looking for a Sign?
No. Randi was not just searching for a sign. She did not believe it was possible in the first place. Getting a sign had not even entered the chat yet, until the possibility came into existence.
This is the way it happens. Isn’t it coincidental that both names were used? Also, that she just happened to catch the mention of them? Honestly, more than half of the time, I can’t even understand a thing those pilots are saying.
Also, the feeling of being “singled out”, means you were. That is a common sign and occurrence to communicate that you are being called to pay attention to something. You feel that what you were called to notice was just for you. Deep down you know it.
The boys were just letting the girls know that although they may have sought a break from the things that reminded them of their loss, their beloveds were communicating the fact that they were aware of their sorrow, care deeply and are trying to comfort them by saying, “We are with you! And… we are with each other too!”
Brain vs. Mind
The brain likes to rule things out. But the brain is finite and will decompose one day. What does the physical brain know about an afterlife? The brain may or may not know a thing or two about these things of which we speak, but your mind does. A mind is the counterpart to a physical brain but in spirit.
People generally don’t believe because they have never been exposed to an after-death communication. However… once you do? It’s a whole new ball game and it’s fun, too. You get that life is more than our physical world. There are great and awesome things that are way beyond it and it’s all good news.
Infinite Possibility
These things definitely happen. However, why men named Dan and Ken happened to be their pilots, we cannot know at this time. Pretty fancy footwork, I’d say, but it did get their attention!
After-death communications and signs that accompany them are real. If you believe them, listen and watch carefully, they will happen again. You will be able to recognize them more easily. As you become more open and accepting, you will begin to fine tune your spiritual senses.
We are infinite beings. There are infinite possibilities that exist in the spiritual realm that we don’t understand. And… the good news is that we will see our departed again.
In the meantime, a spiritual window has opened and with it, an invitation to investigate the real world- the world more real than this one. It is the world from whence we came and inevitably will return again.
In the meantime…be peaceful on your path. It will all work out.
