Questioning Spiritual Signs?

After her mother crosses over, Jan finds herself questioning unexplained events and whether or not they are a sign/after-death communication from her mother.

Jan writes-
“I lost my mom about a few years ago. I had “visitations” from her quite a few times (last one was this past September when she stood by my bed and I asked her a question and she replied to me), and you helped me realize it was really her and not a dream.” And now, again… I am questioning.”

“Recently, my cell phone alarm went off 7:45 a.m. Friday.  I never set it for this day and time.  I happened to get up about 5 minutes before this and had called her name several times because some days I am on the verge of tears and I just need to call her name….then my phone alarm went off.  I don’t know how it could go off because I had no appointment set and it would have gone off last Friday if I had set it. Also you really have to press on the screen to turn it to “on.”  It seemed odd to me.  It did fall on the floor a couple of days ago.. but I still wonder about that.”

“My mom has a music box in her room.  About a year ago, I wound it up to listen to the music.  I listened to the whole song until it was completely unwound.  Now, one night I could not sleep and kept thinking about her and was so low and then the music box started playing. Granted, it was the very end of the song.  Something in the gears may have just decided to unwind more.  But I was surprised and it felt surprising.”

“Anyway, these things could just be happening and my hoping it was her… but wondering what you think about this.  Or is it just circumstance and wishing?  Maybe other people have these things happen?”

Commentary

Questioning a “sign” is a common thing to do when we receive one. We are so hopeful but at the same time, we don’t want to later find out that there was a logical explanation for it.

We want so badly to believe that what our spiritual self recognizes as contact, the physical self is left to wonder. Then, the beauty of the sign gets lost in the confusion of the two.

Jan saw her mother at the foot of her bed, asked her a question that her mother answered. That is pretty amazing! Most people don’t even see their beloved in any form. Why is it so hard to believe the smaller experiences. Perhaps it is because these examples could qualify as coincidence?

At some point though, it is not helpful to continue in this fashion of going back and forth with whether or not an experience is real. Actually, it is said that there are only about 6 questions we, as humans, are always consciously/subconsciously asking ourselves.  One of which is, “Is this real?” The reason is because at some level, we are trying to figure out the answer to how we exist in the world, so this is normal.

However, why drive yourself crazy? Spare yourself! My point is, this back and forth can create spiritual/physical instability. What I recommend is to choose your path and stick with it.

Jan had an amazing first experience that she can’t deny. Why is it such a stretch that subtle ones should be any different? Why do we have to question and validate the things that could give us the comfort we need. You may not know for sure, but I say, “Chalk it up to a spiritual experience.” Why not give your departed loved one all the credit and be grateful for their support? End the suffering and pick a lane.

I have found in doing so, the debate ends. Not only that, it gets easier to develop these experiences into a spiritual knowing instead of a belief. Faith increases and this is where grace comes in as one submits to the spiritual aspect of the reality of one’s infinite self.

Faith is always more amazing than fear. And, feels better too!
